In this book, David Vasse describes and analyzes some of the major aesthetic and thematic trends of the French cinema over the last fifteen or so years. In many ways, the years 1990 to 2000 changed the very concept of "French cinema" by putting into proper perspective its most world-renowned notion — the author's perception. Since that period, how have French authors' perceptions managed to remain timely, at the crossroads of their art and their era ? The favourite themes of this cinema shaped by its time, by the fragmentation of ideologies and by new technologies, are addressed in this book.
David Vasse is a senior lecturer in cinematographic studies at Université de Caen. He contributes articles to several publications, including Eclipses, Contre-bande and CinémAction.
